Water Purification Methods: Types and Benefits

Nowadays, so many water purifiers offer so many features which are quite frankly hard to understand. You see all these terms that don’t come with their meaning, so it makes you even more clueless.

There are many water purification methods out there, RO, UV, UF, Alkaline being the most common ones. However, knowing precisely what a particular type of purification method does will only provide you with more clarity while purchasing. This way, you’ll know your requirements and what precisely caters to them.

Here are ten different types of purification methods and their benefits.

1.Reverse Osmosis (RO): This method is widely regarded as the most reliable one and rightly so! As it can kill all bacterias and viruses. In this method, a semipermeable membrane is used to eliminate the large particles, dissolved salts, germs, bacterias, and viruses.

The best feature of RO is that it can remove the dissolved salts present in the water, which many other methods fail to do.

2.Ultraviolet (UV): This method can also kill all the germs, bacterias, and viruses in the water without sabotaging its taste. In this method, normal water goes through Ultraviolet (UV) rays that kill all the harmful bacterias present in the water. Consequently, making the water disinfected from pathogens, clean and drinkable. That said, it fails to remove dead cells and dissolved salts from the water.

It is commonly known as one of the most cost-effective water purification methods as it is easy to maintain, chemical-free and reliable.

3.Ultrafiltration (UF): This method can kill bacteria, germs, viruses without electricity! It doesn’t require power to operate. It will also remove the dead bacterias from the water, making it absolutely clean and pure. However, it fails to remove dissolved salts.

Since UF doesn’t require electricity, it’s slightly more cost-friendly. Furthermore, the filters are easy to maintain and very durable.

4.TDS Controller: The harmful minerals and heavy metals are known as ‘Dissolved Solids’ and the level Dissolved Solids in water is called TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) level of water. TDS controller displays this level of water present in the water.

So, TDS controller is used to keep the level of essential minerals high in the purified water.

5.Spun Cartridge: This method suspends sedimented/ solid particles present in the water. The microfibre ensures high efficiency and a constant flow rate.

They are often referred to as ideal pre-filters and have a Multi-layered structured cartridge as well as high dirt holding capacity.

6.Sediment: This method basically eliminates/ removes all the residues, dirt, silt and rust from the water. These particles tend to disrupt the taste and appearance of the water.

It also protects the Carbon filter.

7. Pre Carbon: This method consists of Activated Carbon. In this method, all the contaminants are eliminated through absorption. By doing so, the contaminants stick to the surface of the activated carbon particles.

It helps to remove chlorine as well as organic impurities and is just as beneficial in removing tastes and odours.

8.Post carbon: This method consists of Nanosilver infused activated carbon blocks. Since this silver is a bacteriostatic agent, it prevents the growth of bacteria in the carbon media.

It is widely known as the polisher, and it enhances the taste of water as well.

9.Mineral Cartridge: This method has a pretty simple task to complete. It consists of mineral balls which help to replenish the essential minerals in the water.

The antibacterial balls in the mineral cartridge also restrain the bacterial growth.

10.Antiscalant: This method consists of polyphosphate. Polyphosphate helps to remove inorganic fouling and to scale in the water.

It also enhances the RO performance by reducing the requirements of membrane cleaning. It is also very beneficial in scattering colloids and metal oxides.

Given how each of these methods has their own distinctive role to play, you’re probably wondering if you could find a water purifier that has all ten? Well, look no further because you’re about to check out our ten in one EWI010 model!
